Apple Crumble

For Crumble: we put flour, sugar, butter in a bowl and with the help of our fingers we form a crumbly dough. Let the bowl cool until the apples are ready.

Peel an apple and cut it into cubes.

Put the oil, diced apples and sugar in a Teflon pan.

Let them cook over low heat for 10-15 minutes, until the sugar has caramelized and the apples have softened.

Finally add the cinnamon, and let the apples cool.

Put the caramelized apples in the bowl greased with a little butter, spread the crumbly dough over them, then put the dish in the preheated oven until it browns nicely on top.

While the crumble is in the oven, we prepare it Vanilla sauce: In a kettle we put 300 ml of milk to boil.

In a bowl put the starch, egg yolks, vanilla essence and sugar. Pour the remaining milk (50 ml) on top, and mix well.

When the milk has started to boil, take the kettle off the heat, pour the starch mixture with sugar, yolk and milk, stir continuously and bring to a boil again over low heat.

Serve the crumble with vanilla sauce or vanilla ice cream!

Does Apple Crumble Freeze Well?

As with most foods apple crumble doesn’t come out of the freezer quite as perfect as it would have been when it was fresh. You might find that the crumble is a little softer.

You can either toast it to bring back the crunch or freeze the apple and crumble separately and put them together once they have been defrosted.

If you have decided to freeze the apple crumble unbaked, then this shouldn’t prove too much of a problem as baking will remove this softness in most cases.

Fruit crumble - a recipe only good for summer! Why is it so suitable for summer? I explain below and I promise that the Fruit Crumble recipe will enter your permanent "repertoire" or the recipes that you repeat very often in your family, at the request of the public!

What is a "crumble"? Crumble is a dessert that originated in Ireland and appeared during World War II, as an alternative to the traditional pie, due to the lack of ingredients needed for the pie dough and mainly because the butter was rationalized or not. was found! Crumble has become popular all over the world precisely because it is so versatile and easy to prepare. In principle, crumble refers to a mixture of fruits over which is placed a topping based on butter, flour and sugar. Bake everything until the topping becomes crispy and the fruits are well ripened.

Don & # 8217t add too much water, or the crumble will quickly form a wet, sticky paste.
  • Don & # 8217t forget the vanilla ice cream. You could easily enjoy a bowl (or two) of this easy apple crumble on its own, but it & # 8217s even better with vanilla ice cream on top! I love the way the rich ice cream contrasts with the sweet, nutty crumble and juicy fruit. If ice cream & # 8217s is not your thing, you can still pair this apple crumble recipe with a creamy topping. Regular whipped cream or coconut whipped cream would both be fantastic.

What do you need

  • 10 cups peeled, peeled and chopped apples
  • 2 teaspoons gluten-free vanilla extract, split
  • 1/2 cup orange juice or apple cider
  • 1/4 cup granulated cane sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon silver powder or cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 cups of certified gluten-free oats
  • 3/4 cup gluten-free baking mixture, preferably without xanthan or guar gum (use your favorite mixture - I used Arrowhead Mills Gluten-FreeAll-PurposeBaking Mix with excellent results)
  • 1/2 cup brown packaged cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt

Ingredients for the apple crumble recipe with ice cream

  • 350 g green apples (Granny Smith)
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 75 g melted butter
  • 400 g digestive biscuits

How do we prepare the apple crumble recipe with ice cream?

Peel the apples and cut them into thin slices, then place them in a heat-resistant dish and sprinkle the sugar over them. If there are several layers of apples, divide the sugar and sprinkle between them.

Apples with sugar are placed in the preheated oven at 190 C for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, crush the biscuits very finely, add the butter and mix.

Remove the bowl from the oven and sprinkle the biscuits over the apples and at the end we lightly press them with a spoon.

Put back in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.

Cinnamon can also be added when ripe apples.

We recommend it to be served with 2-3 cups of ice cream, we prefer banana and chocolate ice cream but it also goes well with vanilla ice cream.

Traditional British Apple Crumble

Puddings and desserts are the backbones of British food and they are renowned throughout the world because of their wonderful balance of flavors. Although crumbles come in many guises and can be both sweet and savory, apple is the most popular and one of the most quintessential British sweet treats that have been adopted in cuisines around the world. The closest in the American tradition is the apple crisp, but this version includes most times the oats that the classic British dish lacks.

Delicious British apples, which are at their best in the autumn and winter, are the core of this dish. We love Bramley apples, considered the best apples for cooking because of their balance between sugar and acid, but other apples like Jonagold, Pink Lady, Mutsu, or Honeycrisp are also great. Simply avoid the really hard varieties such as the Granny Smith, as they don’t break down in the same way and can stay too hard even after cooking.

Classically served warm with a side of custard, the crumble can also be served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Preheat oven to 160 ° C fan-forced (180 ° C conventional).

Put apple, sugar and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high
heat, and cook for about 10 minutes or until slightly softened. Drain away
excess liquid and transfer to a large bowl. Combine lemon juice and
cornflour then drizzle over apples, toss to coat.

Spoon mixture into four shallow baking dishes and place dishes on an oven tray.

To make the crumble topping, put flour, oats, coconut and brown sugar
into a large bowl. Drizzle over butter and stir until just combined into a
lumpy mixture. Divide mixture over apples and bake for 30 minutes until
golden brown. Serve with double cream.

Cook's tip

To make a large crumble, simply spoon apple mixture into a large 30x20cm baking dish and scatter crumble topping over the top. Bake as above.
